👋🏽 the pleasure is all mine.
Thank you for visiting my newsletter.
If you are new - Hello there, it’s a pleasure to meet you! My name is Alysha Selvarajah and I am 16 years old.
As of now, I am working towards better understanding virology and immunology as an Innovator at The Knowledge Society. On the side, I co-lead the Content Design team for an activism group known as Activate Global. I’ve also been interning at a climate change awareness company known as The Climate Crew.
💐 goodbyes and going outside
From finishing Gr. 10 to having my last TKS session, June was full of goodbyes.
It was bittersweet.
On one end, I felt a rush of relief knowing that I had made it to the end. All those late nights had finally paid off. I would finally have a bit more time to relax…a bit more time to myself.
But, a part of me felt empty. There would be no more late-night calls with friends and frantic texting as my friends and I tried to figure out if school was going to be in-person. It dawned on me that I would miss even the worst, most embarrassing moments too.
Saying goodbye has always been difficult for me. I always looked at it as the end of a wonderful experience. A conclusion to a chapter I would never open again. However, after talking with a friend of mine, my perspective has shifted.
Saying goodbye does not mean that it is the end. Instead, it is more of a “See you later”.
So, to all those who’ve been a part of my journey this year. It isn’t a goodbye, but simply a see you later, whenever that may be.
☕️ personal pleasantries
Got An Internship
This month, I found out that I was accepted for a marketing internship with The Climate Crew, a company dedicated to facing climate change head-on. It has been a bit hectic with learning new programs, understanding how the company operates and getting into sync with the rest of the team. Still, this has been one of my favourite experiences this year and I’m so excited to continue working with them.
Currently, I am helping to design content for the Instagram pages and focus on building out the TCC brand. Check out the account here!
S/o to Cassia Attard, Nazra Noushad, Tenzin Migmar & Freeman Jiang for making me feel so so welcome.
An End To TKS
June also included my final TKS Innovate session. It was bittersweet, but I felt oddly comforted. I guess it was the reassurance that I would still be connected with this community.
Looking back, I feel as though I’ve grown so much as an individual. I’ve come to understand myself better and now have a better idea of what I want my future to be. I honestly wouldn’t be in this place in my life without the TKS community. So, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every single person involved with TKS for helping me. You have always encouraged me to do better and pushed me to aim higher. A special thanks to my mentors Harrison Nolan & Kim Parnell for everything. I wish everyone the best!
🧸 top picks
Most Played Songs 🎶
“Beautiful” by Quentin Arispe” - Accidently stumbled upon this when I was researching for an Activate Global post. It has been on repeat ever since.
“0X1=LOVESONG by TXT ft. Seori” - Mann I love this style and Seori’s voice is so so beautiful.
Film 🎬
My sister has gotten my brother and I hooked onto Netflix’s Carmen Sandiego. I was pleasantly surprised by how well-done this show was. From the way they incorporate geography/history into the plot to how lovely the character designs are, this show is one I would definitely recommend. As I write this newsletter, I’m currently waiting for my sister to free her schedule so we can watch another episode tonight (If you see this, please pick a time >:).
Side Note: A plus is how addicting the theme song is 😩
🧳 in the coming month
In July, I plan to work on:
Exercising more often - I want to create more healthy and sustainable habits that I can take into my next school year. I’ll update you on my exercise routine next month 🏃♀️
Cleaning - Every summer, I like to do a deep clean of my room. It helps me stay organized and just feel calm.
Gaining knowledge - I have a lot of time on my hands this summer. It will likely go into revising for school, attending summer school, and creating more content.
in conclusion
I would like to take the time to thank you for reading this month’s newsletter. I hope that the next month finds you well.
